“I was 40 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate.” We live in a society which is conditioned for men not cooking. A kitchen is kept far away from us by our mothers. Men are privileged and women are supposed to cook for them and feed them even if they don’t do much. My wife and mom cook very well and they sure need a break. Come on Indian complete macho man we need to get practical. We have the ability to cook as good as any women around. So many times I went out for dinner’s but never had a clue what the hell I am eating. I had no opinion no thought on food.
The day that changed it all for me was when our family had a bet on who is the best cook around. I decided to try my hand on it. I logged on to http://www.youtube.com/ and gave a search for how to make butter chicken and bang I got hooked on to http://www.vahrehvah.com/ You tube video. The video demonstrates simple and straight explanation on butter chicken recipe. Technology is there to help us cook better follow step by step video instructions and in no time your dish is ready. Off course I had no clue on what’s a coriander powder, garlic paste, popy seeds all a mystery. I requested my wife and mom to help me out. The taste was not bad everyone at home appreciated it. That’s when my confidence went up and tried my had on chicken masala, French toast, chicken tikka, chicken lollipop, chicken noodles, paneer butter masala, chicken fried rice and chilly chicken.
To my surprise my family looks at me in a different way now. My father told me if you keep cooking I would call you a maharaj. My wife pats my back and tells everyone my husband can cook. My daughter looks at me while cooking these dishes with all praises. My mother waits for my dishes and really eats it well. I feel so lucky to be doing this. To be a professional cook is tough to be a family cook is fun. I can’t waste my time writing anymore I need to start cooking. Good cooking: it can be tasted, but not explained....
Goodnight!
